SOFT's client, located in Oakland, NJ, needs a Corrosion Control Consultant to support the testing, monitoring, design, and implementation of corrosion control measures to protect all the catholically protected steel gas distribution mains, services, and metering & regulating stations in accordance with the organization's Standards and State and Federally Mandated Regulatory Requirements.

Job Responsibilities
  • Investigate and diagnose where cathodic protection systems have failed and determine appropriate remedial action; create work orders, monitor work order process, and recheck after work is completed.
  • Direct crews and contractors who install or repair Cathodic Protection work orders.
  • Oversee work of contractors.
  • Use knowledge of corrosion principles and practices to provide technical solutions within the cathodic protection systems.
  • Develop corrective job orders and direct crews on system installation for restoring cathodic protection to structures.
  • Achieve the desired results through sound management practice and skills and a commitment to teamwork.
  • Direct the team in accomplishing desired results and ensure quality and quantity of work performed is in compliance with standards and procedures, safe work practices and government regulations.
  • Maximize system reliability by ensuring timely effective troubleshooting, planning and scheduling of work orders.
  • Develop, coach, counsel, and recognize associates and interns.
  • Design corrosion protection systems for new steel installations. Provide reports regarding monthly inspections and open work.
  • Work with Districts to ensure proper and timely documentation of completed work.
  • Train, qualify and supervise seasonal employees performing corrosion testing.
  • Accompany representatives of the BPU on inspections of steel distribution facilities for compliance with corrosion control regulations.
Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years gas operations experience and/or 3 years of corrosion experience.
  • Must be logic oriented with mechanical abilities, including a proven ability to plan, organize and problem-solve
  • Knowledge of Gas Distribution policies, Appliance Service policies, procedures and practices, including the core computer applications such as DWMS, SAP, MIMS and Excel
  • General understanding of electrical circuits and theory
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and client focus, including ability to explain a problem to a customer, and gain cooperation from others
  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct daily activities and work effectively under minimal supervision
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
  • This is a safety sensitive position. D.O.T. testing is required.
  • Desired Corrosion technician training and NACE or AMPP certification a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep neat and accurate paper records, including making layout sketches of facility locations.
