SOFT's client is looking for a Principal Transmission Planning Engineer for a long term contract assignment. The successful candidate can be located in either our Waltham, MA, Boston, MA, or our Brooklyn, NY office. This position has the potential to be hybrid from MN.

Key Accountabilities  
•  Perform, lead, or facilitate engineering and transmission assessments and analyses.  
•  Support and advise on production cost modeling, economic and regional market evaluations to assist in key strategic insights, identify or confirm project opportunities and solutions.  
•  Apply innovative approaches to simulation and analysis that can help identify or support new initiatives.  
•  Lead technical analysis as needed to support potential project partnerships.  
•  Document, present and report findings and justifications. Help prepare executive summaries or investment committee papers.  
•  Support or lead on siting, permitting and licensing requirements and/or hearings, if required.  
•  Represent client interests on national, regional, and local levels when necessary.  
•  Oversee consultants, engineers or other subject matter experts as required to augment or complement the Business Development team. 
• Work in a project team and matrix environment interacting with individuals across client functions in the US and UK.  
  
Qualifications  
• Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields. Power systems focus desired.  
• Strong experience in transmission system analysis required.  
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex model outputs into business insight & articulate the impact of results.  
• Broad knowledge of US power industry standards, structures, policies, regulations & market fundamentals is essential.  
  
• Familiarity with recent trends and technologies in electric transmission, onshore and offshore wind, other large-scale renewable generation, energy storage, conventional generation and emerging technologies.  
•  Strong track record of relevant professional experience in projects, including developing business cases, optioneering, data analysis, estimating and work structure planning.  
•  Flair for handling & manipulating data to forecast, derive trends and test sensitivities.  
•  Interest in offshore wind project development and execution.  
•  Excellent communication skills with proven ability to persuade, challenge and build credibility based on personally derived recommendations.  
•  Computational literacy including handling large data sets is mandatory.  
•  Fundamental understanding of the components of electric transmission facilities including key risks and opportunities is required.  
•  Ability to develop tools and processes to facilitate best practice & knowledge sharing.
